It is a really good time to take a step back and really think about what your goals are and what you would like to achieve from the companies you apply to. There are many great companies out there, so in the end it will be down to the small details and personal feelings. I am really happy that I found Cundall for me, it has many of the positive qualities I was looking for in a company. There will always be an opportunity for a person who is determined and passionate about what they do. When you find yours, go for it!

Application Advice:
I would advise to go through free available practice tests online for the technical assessments before they apply.
Interview Advice:
1) Be organized (prove that you can work in a team, show any drawings you may have produced at university or from any kind of software you may have used).
2) You may be asked the same question two-three times, make sure you answer with the same thing!
3) Go through the company's website and see what they do and any projects they have worked for, any awards they've won.
4) You may not have got any work experience in the engineering sector but show them that you will do the best you can and work hard to prove that they have made the right choice.
5) Learn about ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers) or IStructe and tell them what your plans are for the future, where do you see yourself in five years from now?

Research the company and become familiar with their competencies, views and goals and align them with your own. Demonstrate how you meet these, using examples from university but more importantly from other experiences i.e. part time jobs, volunteering, even hobbies and interests.

I was asked plenty of questions regarding my academic experiences, previous experiences and other skills such as team working and report writing.
I would advice the candidates to be well-prepared before taking the interview. It is a good idea to do some research about the company and the role to apply for before the interview. During the interview, it would be beneficial to remain calm and focused on the questions and be honest with every answer. It would be more beneficial to bring along a portfolio of projects that the candidate had done and present it to the interviewer at suitable time during the interview. If the interview involves presentation, it would be a good idea to practice the presentation and prepare handouts for the audiences before going to the interview.
Sometimes it might be better to ask the interviewer questions regarding the company, job and industry.

If you are studying Mechanical Engineering (not Architectural Design or Building Services Engineering) and applying for this role, spend some time in advance learning about this sector and what building services engineers do (e.g. by looking at job descriptions). Also read a book or two on HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) since it is not directly covered in the Mechanical Engineering Course. Demonstrate that knowledge in your application form and this will also give an advantage at interviews and assessment centres later on.

Be willing to put in the hours to get up-to-speed on what you need to know and be open to changing how you work or what you work as (i.e. expect to be mechanical but might change to structural engineering).
Always question what you are doing and have targets/goals that you can aim towards.
Interview Advice:
What are your aims with joining this company?
What do you want to achieve (personally and with Cundall)?
Make sure you do research on what work Cundall actually does (construction based consultancy).
Be truthful in the interview but also try not to stress too much. It is about them (interviewer) getting to know what you are like as much as it is getting through the questions they have to ask.

Not a huge size so you feel like a valuable member of your team with important contributions to projects - all projects are partner led. Very environmentally friendly and 'green'. Well-being of employees seems to come very highly in company's ethics.
Very professional work is produced to an extremely high standard.
Worst:
Slightly lower pay than some competitors but this could be due to Cundall's less profit-orientated way of working.
