Be honest and give the questions some thought. They aren't trying to trip you up or expect you to come up with something ground breaking that no one else has ever thought of before. They just want to know that you understand the basics and that they can develop you.

Interview Advice:

Be genuine. The people interviewing have done it countless times before. They'll pick up very early on if the candidate is suitable or not. Prepare your answers. They will ask for examples based on "going above and beyond" and "leadership" examples etc. If you have these prepared with the way that you were able to implement, measure and deal with problems - you'll have a good answer.

Application Advice:

Take your time on your application - you only get one chance to get it right. It may seem strange, but to work at Volkswagen you don't need to have a love for cars. You need to be passionate, personal and collaborative.

Interview Advice:

Be prepared and really think about multiple competency questions. It is important to have lots of variation, don't use the same example twice!

It is equally important to be yourself and show your personality. It is very much a people company and if you can show that you have good people skills alongside good business instinct.

It's also really good to think of engaging questions to ask throughout the assessment center.

Application Advice:

Be really clear about why you want to join Volkswagen Group UK - of all the companies in the UK, why exactly VWG and why exactly the graduate scheme as opposed to any other path?
Try to find out more about the company from the people who work here - connect with them on LinkedIn, ask them about their experience, what they like and don't like, would they recommend, etc.
Visit some of our retailers - with 5 brands across the whole UK, there surely is a showroom within easy drive of where you are, so make sure you experience our products, people and culture before starting your application.

Interview Advice:

Be prepared for competency-based interviews - they are not designed to catch you out, but having published the competencies on our recruitment website, you'd be expected to have prepared some relevant and thoughtful examples to demonstrate the skills we're looking for!
Be relaxed during the assessment centre and remember you are not competing against the other candidates, you are competing against the criteria, so don't tread on each other, collaborate, that's what VWG is all about!
You will have plenty of opportunities for networking during the assessment centre, so make the most of them as they could be your key to a position in VWG even if the graduate scheme is not exactly suitable for you!

Application Advice:

Focus on your experiences, what have you done in the past that could be used at Volkswagen? Think about when you've been set a challenge at work, or in life and you haven't only completed it, but you've gone above and beyond.

Be creative, research and understand the company's background, you don't need to know the ins and outs of how a car works, but it's helpful to know the company structure, the brands we have and the relationship with the Retail Network.

If you have experience in another industry, try and link that to Automotive, we're a very old fashioned industry, what do other industries do well that we don't appear to do?

Application Advice:

If you want quick progression and are willing to work hard - apply. You don't have to be a petrol head either.
Have a 1/2 page CV based around experience. Work experience should be your key focus. Also make sure you highlight your key achievements and the things that will stand out. Don't worry about including everything, especially things that are going to be quite common across most applications - you want to include the things that stand out and get you noticed.

Interview Advice:

Volkswagen Group are looking for future leaders, people who have the right attitude, are proactive, and want to add value and drive change. Think about examples where you have been given a job to do, and you haven't just completed the task, you have gone over and above and made a difference. The industry is outdated in many ways and if you are creative and ambitious you couldn't be in a better place. They are trying to identify the right attitude. We are a people business, so it is important to be personable and someone they believe will be credible, believable and influential in the business. Think of leadership examples.

Application Advice:

Go visit some dealerships and try and get some work experience! The group really values individuals who have dealer-network experience. One you have done this; make sure your experience is evident in your application and CV.

Interview Advice:

- Cover and wide range of experiences when answering in your competency based interviews (including your dealer experience ;) ).
- Be human and personable!
- Think outside the box and try to avoid generic answers.

Application Advice:

That a focus on vehicles and cars is not a requirement, but enthusiasm and self motivation is. We may be a car company, but there are so many arms to the business that people who arent interested in cars could find something they thrive in.

Application Advice:

Get some experience in the industry as it is invaluable. Even if you don't have a placement with a car company, go and spend some time with a retailer.

Application Advice:

Of course do your research, but be genuine. Volkswagen literally stands for People's Car and as cheesy as it may seem, the people are far more important than the stats and figures you can throw out in a covering letter.

I'd also recommend that make sure you have some type of industry experience before you apply. It doesn't have to be automotive, but experience of real working life will change you so much and with an intensley competitive application process, this could be the helping hand you need to get you through.

Interview Advice:

Definitley just be yourself - I see a lot of people desperate to work for Volkswagen because of the name. But the culture and the people has to be right for you and the only way to get that feeling is to be yourself.

There's the usual questions you can expect in competency based interview and there's no quirky 'google' style questions to throw you off. So prepare, and use a variety of example - don't just squeeze out everything from one summer job!

Fantastic pay and benefits package, with a very strong people focused, caring culture that HR have worked hard to achieve. It is a pleasant place to work and most people I have met throughout my time here have been easy to get along with, supportive and friendly.

The cars - I'm a firm believer that we make some of the best cars available to purchase today. This makes it very easy to get motivated to come to work as the products we have are incredible.

The cars again - getting to drive vehicles that no 23/24 year old should even dream about driving, and not just occasionally, every single day!

5 brands under one roof - the scope and size of the company, there are so many different avenues you can go down, making this a great place to work for career progression.

Worst:

At times the company can be very slow paced, due to it's size and strict processes.
