What are the best and worst things about your job?

Throughout the Allianz Management Scheme, I've been privileged to work amongst very supportive and caring colleagues. The exposure I've had will certainly help to pave my way to great career opportunities. I have enjoyed the diversity of this scheme and the exposure to different parts of the business, enabling me to really understand how it functions and where we can improve. This is exactly the objective every management scheme should be designed to achieve.

What are the best and worst things about your job?

I am extremely happy with all aspects of my job so it is quite difficult to narrow it down to a few best things. However, I would say the three best things about my job are below:
- First, within my role I was given real responsibility within the business from day one which allowed me to quickly improve and gain a strong understanding of the business.

- Second, Allianz has a fantastic work life balance entwined into its culture. The company appreciates that your life should not be swallowed up with work, even as a Graduate. Allianz would never expect you to do the unnecessarily long shifts done by Graduates from other companies caused by more senior staff dumping their unwanted work on them.

-Third, the support and learning opportunities Allianz offers are exceptional. They offer their Graduates courses, workshops and study days to aid them in their development.

Be truthful, write everything you feel you have achieved and be honest about what areas you would like to develop. Try not to worry about what degree background you are coming from. Everyone is friendly, just try to engage with as many people as possible, and have a brief idea of the insurance industry before. Really make sure you know why you want the job. Application Advice:

Give as much evidence as you can for transferrable skills, you don't need to have worked in or even have much knowledge of insurance to apply. Allianz are looking for people who are willing to learn and have some transferable skills which will make you a good fit for a fast paced industry such as insurance.

Interview Advice:

Be yourself, Allianz looks for people who will fit in the company culture. They don't mind if you don't know certain things as long as you are willing and capable to learn. Being yourself will mean you come off better.

Initial interview was based around your skills and how you can show these with previous examples of work you have done/things you have taken part in.

For the assessment day, you can't really prepare for this so don't stress. Do some preparation on the insurance industry in general and some basic insurance info as you will likely be asked on things to do with Allianz and competitors. Apart from this, just revise what you went over in your initial interview so you have that to fall back on if questioned.

Application Advice:

My advice would be to research both Allianz and the Insurance industry before applying. By showing in your application that you have researched crucial areas such as Solvency II, the Ogden rate and IFRS 17 you will highlight to Allianz that you are a candidate worth progressing and investing in.

Interview Advice:

The interview focusses primarily on Allianz's people attributes; Customer and Market Excellence, Collaborative Leadership, Trust and Entrepreneurship, so examples of times when you have shown your proficiency in these areas are crucial. However, it is also important to have a good understanding of Allianz, their competitors and factors currently affecting the Industry.

Research the company. Check your spelling and grammar on your application form and CV. Take your time in answering the questions.

Interview Advice:

You can never be over prepared. Research the company, know what you are applying for...sounds simple but too many people get this wrong!

Dress well, be prepared and be yourself! It is as much as us finding out about you as it is you finding out about us.

Be honest in the your interviews and assessment centers, they are not there to try and find a certain type of candidate with a particular set of skills, what is more important is to choose the right individual for the job who is willing to learn.

Application Advice:

Make sure you have an understanding of how the commercial insurance market is structured in the UK before applying; poorer candidates know very little about how business is transacted and how the market functions when they apply. You will need to demonstrate within your application why it is you want to work in the area for which you have applied, so make sure you understand the role and then sell you skills!

Interview Advice:

As previous with regards understanding of the market; questions will certainly be asked about where we sit within the market and who our competitors are. Other than that the skills required will be similar to other financial services type roles so read up on these and make sure you can demonstrate them.

Application Advice:

Be confident in your approach and don't worry about knowing too much about insurance as the job requires an equal proportion of character not just technical skill. When faced with a problem try to find solutions and not just disregard them, this will be key when it comes to the assessment stage. Finally be friendly and eager to speak (but don't overstep your mark) when applying as this is a people business that relies on making strong connections.

Interview Advice:

If you are given a deadline stick to it especially when it comes to time keeping, don't overstep it and don't under reach it. Again find solutions to problems and be innovative. Communicate your personality not just your accolades. Don't wear vans to the interview no matter who stole your shoes the previous week.
