What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Try not to be intimidated by the application process.

Be honest about why you want to work for Anglian Water in your initial application.

The telephone interview is quite difficult because you can't see how the interviewee is reacting to what you're saying, but try to not get flustered by any of the questions. No one is trying to catch you out, they just want to know a little more about you.

Don't try to predict the outcome of any of the stages in the application, as it's impossible to know and will only cause unnecessary worry. (I thought I failed the non-verbal reasoning test!)

Do you have any interview tips?

The only face-to-face interviews you have are on the assessment day. This is good because the meet up and meal on the evening before really helps you to relax and feel comfortable with the people who will be interviewing you. The interviewers / assessors may act quite differently in the assessments than they did at the meal, but this is only because they have a job to do. Don't let it throw you!

Be completely honest on the OPQ and use it as an opportunity to self-evaluate your own strengths and weaknesses.

Prepare for the assessment day (e.g. learn a bit about the business and think about why you really want the job), but don't try to over-prepare. The tasks really require you to be flexible, not scripted. It's very cliche, but try to be yourself!

There will be graduates from the previous intake at the assessment centre. Ask them questions (although they won't be able to give specifics about the tasks/interviews).

Most importantly, the assessment day allows you the opportunity to learn more about Anglian Water, the people who work there and the company culture. I came away from it knowing that I really, really wanted the job. So just enjoy it!
