Research topics that are applicable to the role of application, this may be useful to reference in interviews and may help build confidence on the subject matter. For example; I understood that the role involved mechanical engineering in the water treatment, so I revised theory gained from university (pump curve analysis) along with some basic process theory (water treatment process). This background knowledge may be helpful, but keep in mind the best trait to convey during an interview is your eagerness to learn more - showing a hiring engineer that you want to apply yourself.
