About the role

Effective project planning is vital for the success of any project, it is essential that the project plan is constantly monitored and any deviations or changes to it are acted upon. Project Planning effectively is a beating heart of the project and it is responsibility of a project planner to develop it taking into account available workforce and materials, monitor progress against it, implement change and advise project team of any deviations. Being a part of Project Management Community, our Planners are expected to drive effective Project Management by implementing robust Project Controls and Performance Measurement.

Our project planning graduates follow a training programme which is developed around a mix of project experience and formal courses and certifications (for example NEC, APMP, Primavera, different forms of construction contracts). Depending on the project requirements you'll be site or office based with UK Travel.

You will have visibility in key areas of our business, working together with construction managers, designers, estimators, commercial and procurement. You will be involved in work winning activity and will take the lead in solving technical problems. On the live projects you will play a proactive part in managing project delivery, programme updating and implementing compensation events/variations into a programme, you will chair project surgeries, and will be responsible for Earned Value and Productivity Metrics Reporting. On the project completion you will participate in lessons learned workshops and collation of 'as built' vs planned data.

Being a part of the Project Management Office you will take part in other initiatives where your Project Management training will contribute towards objectives we are working to achieving.

The Balfour Beatty Graduate scheme lasts for two years, you will follow a development programme that will equip you with the skills needed to become a business leader of the future. Throughout the two years, you'll be supported by your line manager and mentor and have the opportunity to attend graduate-based events, where you will network with your peers, develop interpersonal skills and share best practice. You will join a graduate cohort and be assigned Business Improvement and Corporate Social Responsibility Projects that can affect the way we work as a business. 

Who we're looking for

To be considered for our graduate scheme, you’ll have:

  • Bachelor (2.2 Hons) or an MSc (Merit) Degree in Project Management
  • Exceptional logic and analytical skills
  • Strong communication, team working and people management skills
  • Engineering qualification is a bonus however not essential
  • Full UK Driving License
