Application Advice:

Make sure you know what you are getting into before you apply, some people may think recruitment is all fun and games. Yes we have this 'work hard, play hard' atmosphere and working at Pro is full of perks, but you will still be expected to perform to the highest of your abilities. We have had many people 'jump' into recruitment just for the sake of having a job and earning some money. Do not do this, ensure you know what is going to be expected of you and decide if this is something which is doable.

Interview Advice:

Scored against key competencies, looking at your ability to react in certain situations, asking scenario questions, what would you do in this situation? etc.

Application Advice:

This role involves very little technical input - if you have done an engineering degree or geology degree, this will not build on what you have done. It does provide good opportunities to stay a part of the industry and develop commercial, strategic and analytical skills instead.

Application Advice:

Applying for this role you do not need to demonstrate what you already know about individual commodities but that you have the skills to analyse markets in general. The role is a mix of economics, writing and personal skills in talking to clients and market participants so a CV which is well-rounded is ideal.

Interview Advice:

As CRU is a medium-sized company the interview process is very personal and to the point. Questions asked at the interview stage are unlikely to surprise you so know yourself and your degree - especially if from an economics or engineering background - very well.

Application Advice:

Do not follow stereotypes and think that a job in analysis is for "geeks" or introverts. An increasingly important part of our daily tasks include engaging with the market: in this respect, your application should provide strong evidence of effective communication skills.

Interview Advice:

Make sure you have an idea of how to forecast the price of a commodity. You do not need to know the details of complex econometric models, but you should be able to sustain a discussion on the factors affecting commodity markets. Your interviewer will be looking for the ability to critically analyse trends, and explain them in a clear and succinct manner. After all that's what the job is all about!

Application Advice:

The application process is fairly short so you have very few chances to prove yourself. Mention good reasons why want to join the organisation and what interests you about the specific role in CRU. Try to approach current employees on linkedin or email to find out more about company culture. The amount of research you do about the company will be obvious in your cover letter.
Only highlight relevant skills for the role in your CV but also show that you have a life through your extra-curricula activities even if they are not relevant to the job.

Interview Advice:

Show a keen interest in the mining and metals industry. Even if you have no experience in this area we want to see a curious nature. After all, its a research role in market analysis.
