How would you describe your job in 2-3 lines?
I sell equity derivatives into european institutions, private banks, pension funds, swfs, broker dealers
What do you actually do on a day-to-day basis?
I have three roles. The first is discussing current events with clients and providing derivative solutions to any problems that they have, as well as pushing our offering of products. The second is coldcalling prospective clients and working to provide derivative products that are attractive to them. My third task is working with my team to make sure opportunities are being maximized and any problems are resolved.
What are the main positives and negatives to your job?
Client facing role in a fast paced entrepreneurial environment with scope for frequent travel
What qualifications and skills are needed to be great at this job?
2.1 from top university. Evidence of keen interest in finance. Comfortable with numbers and good people skills. Evidence of self motivation.
In what ways has the reality of your job differed from your prior expectations?
Non collaborative competitive work environment, too little time to create considered views
What advice would you give to candidates applying for a similar role at this company
Need to apply for penultimate summer at uni 'summer internship' or increasingly often, first Easter of uni 'spring insight'. Also ability to enter in at non-graduate level by having transferable skills e.g. Previous experience elsewhere, or post an MBA
