Interview Advice:

The soft skills are invaluable for day-to-day work and interaction. Be ready to promote these in the interview. Everyone has strong academic CV's in today's world. It's what you do personally that makes you stand out.

Be yourself - sounds silly but I was really pleased when my feedback matched how I wanted to portray myself. Prepare and understand the role you are applying for.

Really understand HR, the impact of HR on a business and the challenges HR face within the energy industry. You don't need to be an expect on the energy industry but do need to have an appreciation of how significant developments within the industry impact or effect HR and how this may be played out in practise.

I also looked at key challenges HR as a function face and what other companies and EON do to combat these - such as high absence levels.

From a customer operations perspective, you need to show your passion for customer service, furthermore, demonstrate that you have leadership potential.

E.ON want the new generation of customer centric leaders so ensure your examples prove that you care about customers and can provide examples of where you role model and show your adaptability and resilience.

Also ensure you do your research on the energy industry as this is really important, especially as you progress through the application process.

Interview Advice:

Be calm and composed as E.ON like it when you can perform under pressure in a composed fashion.

Be true to yourself and give good evidence when you are providing answers in your interviews. Anywhere you can show leadership qualities, you would certainly grab their attention!

As usual, you will be asked to complete psychometric tests and competency questions. Psychometric tests are something that you can practise beforehand. When doing competency questions, you need to keep in mind what skill the question is asking you to demonstrate.

This stage is to make sure you have the right intellectual attributes and are able to articulate yourself well on paper and on the telephone.There are psychometric tests involved at this stage, which are part of most graduate schemes these days and should not deter you from applying. I downloaded some practise questions from various websites and found it very useful for preparing.

During the assessment centre i would advise to show your personality more and show that you are someone that would fit into the E.ON culture. Try and engage the interviews and make them remember you as a person, not just what knowledge you have. Dress to impress and above all, try and have fun with it. If it looks like you are enjoying your time there and are not a stressed wreck it will look really good.

Gaining experience on site is a key element to progressing in the power industry. The site work can often be dirty and tiring and so being willing and open to this kind of work is important. Working for E.ON Technologies is very technically focused and so being keen on developing yourself as a technical engineer is also key.

Interview Advice:

The role required a technical interview and an assessment centre. The technical interview focused on techincal questions from my 1st and 2nd year of my undergraduate degree (specifically bending moments, stress analysis and thermodynamics). I also had to give examples of project work.

The assessment centre was based around evaulating your communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, as well as testing your knowledge of the energy industry.
