Application Advice:

From my experience, FMC recruitment does not have a specific person/personality trait that they see as more advantageous. Among the graduate engineers there is a wide range of different career aspirations and personalities so anyone applying has a chance of receiving a job offer if they perform to their strengths during the application process.

Interview Advice:

Perform to your strengths.

If possible try and get involved with FMC as early as you can. They have a great summer internship which offers a brilliant introduction to the company open to 3rd year undergraduates and some 4th year undergraduates.

Application Advice:

FMC's core values underpin everything they do as a company and this feeds down to the day to day engineering work where we are expected to work according to those core values. Focus on them, provide examples of where you have demonstrated them. Know yourself as well, your own strengths (have evidence to support these) and weaknesses and what you can bring to FMC, as this is something which again the company looks for.

Application Advice:

Interview Advice:

Be yourself, interviews or assessment centers are your only chance to get across who you are as an individual, so don't try and be someone else.

Research the company and understand what they want to hear from you. Also, have a clear idea of what you want to do, because the chances are that there is a suitable role somewhere within the business as it is so large.

Interview Advice:

Be yourself and be honest, try to avoid buzzwords and sounding like you are reading from the recruitment pamphlet. This is as much a technical interview as a personal interview and first impressions count.

Application Advice:

From what I remember it's a fairly standard online form with the usual competency based questions, but as with any other company it is good practice to read up on our "core values" and try to focus on giving evidence of how you have demonstrated these.

Interview Advice:

Just relax and be yourself - there is no set "type" of person that FMC goes looking for (we have a pretty diverse graduate group) so focusing on your strengths and what you can bring to the role is the best approach in my opinion. The assessment centre has a fairly relaxed feel to it, which I found helped me to perform better on the day.

The application process is quick and simple. An online application will take you on to an assessment day which will contain an interview. Focus appears to be on the candidate having a relevant degree and work experience (this does not have to be in the same sector as FMC).

Compentencies play a big part in life as a Graduate Engineer as we continually look to develop ourselves as engineers. Therefore they are an important part of the initial interview and future candidates should be able to look at their previous education, work experience etc. and evaluate not just their strenghts but weaknesses and how they could be improved in the job role.
