Application Advice:

Candidates should focus on what they can offer to the firm. GE are looking for like minded people who will add value and not just complete their training and then leave.

Interview Advice:

Demonstrating good technical knowledge is important but what happens in theory and in practice is very different and GE won't expect candidates to be experts. Most applicants will come across similar on paper and so the interview provides candidates with a chance to differentiate themselves from the rest. Candidates should think about their interests, strengths and weakness as ultimately the purpose of the interview is to allow the firm to get to know candidates and determine if they will fit in well.

Application Advice:

Make sure that you use a range of experiences and competencies when answering questions surrounding examples of times you have carried out tasks - It's about showing that you have put your academic skills into practice.

Interview Advice:

I would do your research into the key areas of the business and learn some of the clients and work which Gerald Eve are involved with. I would also make sure that you act yourself in the interview, and let your personality come through - as I said above, it's a real positive if you know your facts and figures regarding the market place, but having a personality with a real passion for other things in life other than property can definitely help your application.

Application Advice:

Make sure you have a flawless CV and Covering Letter. You may be the best candidate in the world but you will be disregarded in the initial stages if you have not polished you CV and Covering Letter.

If you make sure all your initial written material is of high quality, you have done the hard work. Now it's on to the assessment day... which consists of an interview, group task and casual drinks. The best piece of advice is be yourself.

Interview Advice:

Understand what makes Gerald Eve tick. Key business areas (Business Rates nationally and P&D advice in London are specific market leading areas), Senior staff roles and latest news are good places to start.

Also, most importantly, be yourself.

Application Advice:

A straightforward process to apply initially with a few essay questions, CV and covering letter. If successful they will invite you to an assessment centre consisting of group tasks involving a scenario where you had to debate amongst a group and then come together with a decision to present back.
The individual task was a writing one, whereby, another scenario was given and we had to draft a response to a client within a set timeframe. The interview was 40 minutes to an hour and included both HR and competency based questions. They like to hear your desire to work hard, learn and most of all your commitment to your APC, so if you already have experience towards this, it is a big help.
The good thing about Gerald Eve in comparison to other middle to large consultancies is they invite you to an assessment day then within a week of attending you will know your outcome, whereas other firms can take months with several stages, which can be frustrating.

Interview Advice:

Revise the following questions:
• Why GE?
• What experience do you have to date, is this related to your APC?
• What do you want to work in property?
• What are GE’s core values?
• Who is GE’s managing partner?
• What current news have you heard about GE/ the property industry?
• What are your weaknesses / strengths?
Finally ask good questions to your interviewers! Harder the better and ones that make you stand out.

Application Advice:

The application is relatively straightforward with a CV, cover letter and a few questions. Make sure you get as much across about yourself and your personality as possible and link everything to Gerald Eve. Don't just put your property experience, any work experience is good and any extra-curricular activities you are involved with so you have a talking point for your interview.

Interview Advice:

The interview is an assessment day. It involves a group task, a written task and an interview with a member of HR and a Gerald Eve partner. It is not focussed on technical property knowledge, everyone will want to know about you as a person and whether you would fit into Gerald Eve or not so it is best to be yourself and talk to as many Gerald Eve employees as possible.

Make sure you get lots of work experience before your application, not only does this make you look good on paper but also gives you more confidence in an interview. Get you application in early. And as nerve-racking as it might be try and let your character come through as much as possible.

Interview Advice:

I was not asked that much on the technical side of things or what was going on in the market. It was more the interviewers wanting to get to know you as a person, so asking about hobbies and work etc. They do not expect you to know everything before you start, that is why they put you on a 2 year graduate scheme!
