Interview Advice:

At the telephone interview, know about the compnay and the wider MMC, and have answers prepared for "HR type" questions. Show initiative at the Assessment Centre, take the lead but don't sound arrogant! At the face-to-face interview try to relax (sounds daft), but its best if you can make it more of a converstation. They are partly trying to assess how well you would fit into the team.

Interview Advice:

There is a policy within the FSG group to only hire the best - you need to be confident in yourself. That doesn't mean loud, some of our most vital team members are quiet and detail focused whilst others prefer the people side of things. There is a role for everyone as long as you believe you can do it.

Have a good reason for wanting to join Mercer in particular too, why do you think we stand out? etc

Application Advice:

Try to push why you want to work in both this line of business and for this company. What is it that attracts you to the roll. Despite its reputation, the pensions industry has a lot of genuinely interesting aspects to it and given the current climate of change after the 2014 budget, there is a great deal going on that you might want to refer to in an application.

Interview Advice:

Research the company and the line of business as thoroughly as possible. Try to find out as much as you can about the industry.

Make sure you show an interest in the field, and have a basic technical knowledge. Also look into recent developments (for example the Budget 2014..)

Interview Advice:

The interview process is pretty standard (application, online tests, phone interview, assessment centre, final interview), although the assessment centre is not typical - it involves a day in the life as a consultant at Mercer (and so is a lot less generic than standard assessment centres, but also more challenging and interesting), so includes problems you have to solve throughout the day.

Be yourself but make sure you know about the role you are applying for.

Be confident in yourself and in knowing what you want.

Know a bit about the industry - not expected to know everything but good to have a little knowledge.

Interview Advice:

Assessment centre included a presentation and a competency interview. Also included worked examples of reviewing an email for spelling mistakes and wording. And had to write a short paper on a question given in the morning by the afternoon. Also had a verbal reasoning test.

Full on day but actually enjoyable and if you put everything into it you get the full benefit of it.

Actual interview was more of a get to know me and whether I'd be suited for the team so did not feel like a proper interview.
