Starting salary: £0 - £12,000
Current salary: £17,000 - £19,000
What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?
The advice I would give to candidates for this role would be to have an appreciation of different civil engineering processes that feed into projects. You are not expected to have technical knowledge, however, a basic understanding of engineering principles and factors that might affect an infrastructure project.
Do you have any interview tips?
Be as honest as you can and as clear with your answers. As an apprentice, you are not expected to have any technical knowledge for the role (you don't have qualifications in engineering), so the interviewers will be looking to see your personal qualities. Try to provide examples of where you may have overcome adversity, where you have been given responsibility and your work ethic. This may have been through school, part-time jobs or in your leisure.
They are looking to see if you are going to fit into a team environment and work as part of a team. Use examples as much as possible; anyone can say they are the best.
