If you haven't considered a career in local government you should, and the NGDP is most definately the best way to start.

Do you have any interview tips?

The recruitment process is hard. I actually was recruited locally by the Authority that I work for now. There was a group excercise that was very much in line with themes in local goverment, such as 'How do we provide high quality services with less public money?' It's really improtant to know the relationship bewteen national policy and local outcomes.
More importantly its about your attitude, local goverment is open to change and needs strong leadership skills so try and show that you have these qualities.
