Interview Advice:

Interview:

It is a strengths based interview designed to highlight your personal strengths, not trip you up with trick questions. Focus on skills such as leadership, teamwork, exceeding expectations, working with a variety of people etc. (refer back to position advert to find out what skills they are looking for) and make sure you give an example when you have demonstrated each skill at work, university or extracurricular activities (use STAR approach).
Focus on your personal skills rather than the organisation as the assessor is interested in your strengths rather than your knowledge on Nestle, however have a think about what responsibility Nestle has as business in the society.

Good way to approach it is to research strengths based questions, pick ones which you think are most likely to come up then prepare an answer for each .
Print the answers out and take them with you just in case nerves get the better of you, this way you can always refer back to get yourself back on track.

Group Exercise
Lead without authority, get everyone involved in the task and have a time keeper!

Presentation
Usually related to the function you are applying for, so use any relevant knowledge.
Explain how you made a decision and be sure to have reasoning behind it. Try not to become flustered in the Q&A, you will get challenged, it’s how you respond which is critical.

Some other points to remember:

- They don’t expect you to be perfect. They are looking for potential, need to be flexible, agile and have the motivation and ambition to succeed. Demonstrate your strengths and understand the impact of your weaknesses.

- One concise and well informed input is better than three irrelevant or non-productive inputs. You need to give your reasons behind an idea, and think about the big picture. Consider the knock-on effects and implications.

- This is particularly important in the group task. Persuade, don’t argue.

- The key values of the company will usually be reflected in the key competencies they are looking for in the assessment centre.

Finally, if you are successful or unsuccessful always ask for feedback. This will provide you with an overview of your strengths and development

Application Advice:

Thoroughly research Nestle and its culture. Nestle don't just hire anyone who can do the job, they look for the right people who will fit into the culture and environment.

Don't just prepare competency question answers - really think about your skills and the value that you add in situations and what you would be bringing to Nestle.

Application Advice:

Show enthusiasm, particualrly as you might be working for the world's largest food and beverage company. Provide examples of when you have led a team, been proactive, shown iniative, and show that you work well in a team, and are results focused.

Interview Advice:

Know the industry inside out- know the brands Nestle own, but also our main competition. Understand how the market is performing and how our key customers are performing. Share examples of where you have shown your creativity and that you are willing to share big ideas with the team. You will be given a lot of responsibility so need to show that you can manage, and sometimes lead, a project.

Application Advice:

Be open to change - you will need to be adaptable and willing to try a number of different roles, both technical and customer facing. If you are very specific about what you are interesting in doing, a graduate scheme may not be the best fitting role for you.

Interview Advice:

Practice your strengths - think about what really makes you happy at work. Talk passionately about previous projects or work experience and let this shine through. Demonstrate your ability to interact with a wide range of different personalities.

Support Analyst, Ensuring Supply at Nestle

Application Advice:

Learning agility - don't just think about what you have done, a truer reflection of your personality, drive and behaviour lies in what you had learnt or changed as a result. For this reason, don't be scared to discuss situations where the outcome wasn't favourable. If you are able to demonstrate that you now understand where it went wrong and how you would manage that again makes you more human, and in my eyes a better person to work with.

Interview Advice:

Nestle uses a strengths based interview process so I would research the difference between this and a competency based interview. Have bullets prepared around key points you wish to discuss in the STAR format - Situation, Task, Action, Result.

Application Advice:

Check the requirements and what it is you are applying for. Do you know your strengths and weaknesses? Can you apply these to the role? Every person is unique but some roles are looking for specific characteristics, e.g. sales are looking for confidence and SHE are looking for people skills.

Interview Advice:

Revise, revise, revise. Know the company, yourself and the role you are applying for. Look for any interesting points that will make you stand out. Talk about experiences that are relevant to the question but also make it interesting for the interviewer. Build up rapport with everyone on the day - rivals and interviewers alike.

Application Advice:

Be yourself and be honest. Not all companies suit all people and Nestlé has a very clear culture and way of working. This won't suit everybody - so make sure you've done your homework on the company and that you answer all applications open and honestly. Make sure this is the right company for you.

Interview Advice:

Nestlé operate within a different format to many other leading FMCG companies. By working on a 'strengths' based assessment format, the interview can be very different to those which have been practiced/prepared for previously. Focus on what skills you have and what strengths you can own and think about how that would be a valuable addition to what is already a very strong company. This will help you stand out from the crowd.

Try to put across your own personality in your application. Nestle is a people company and that reflects in the way it operates, everyone is very open and willing to help each other.

Academic performance and work experience will of course be important but showing your interests in the application and personality in interviews is really important. Don't give generic answers to questions!

Interview is strengths based, not competency based. This will really highlight pre-prepared answers which can be used in competency interviews.

Be honest, for two reasons: 1) You can't cover up or hide when you're in a face to face job interview. 2) You don't want to get the job based on somethig you're not and then realise that the company you are joining isn't really right for you.

Interview Advice:

Customer Development Manager, Pubs and Hotels at Nestle

Application Advice:

Be yourself.

It's probably the most over-used phrase you'll hear during applications processes. There is usually a reason for that. If you read the role and you don't think you would enjoy it, don't apply. Really think about what you would enjoy about it, for me it was one particular area. Think about the experience you have at the moment can transfer into this.

Interview Advice:

The interviewer wants to see your personality as well as good answers. An answer which reflect some personality and passion will be remembered more a word-for-word memorised answer.

Remember they are asking the question for a reason. It is relevant to the job. Answer the question they asked, don't try to fit something you memorised or prepared if it doesn't fit.

Tip: at the end, in addition to question, if you think you haven't answered something particularly well say so. Expand or express yourself differently if you think you can.

Application Advice:

Speak to others currently in the role. Do your research. Be sure that it is what you want to do before applying and that the role interests you.

Get your application in sooner rather than later as once the places fill up then that is it and you will have to wait for another year.

Get friends to read over your application and make it the best you can. Don't copy and paste answers from other applications as it is far too obvious and you will not be considered.

Interview Advice:

Be honest with yourself. Look at what type of candidate and person they look for and if you don't feel you are that person then don't bother applying as you won't enjoy or fit in with the role/culture.

Be prepared, fully understand what the company do and what they are aiming to do. Get a grasp of the brands they work with and the industry they are in.

Practice your numeracy and verbal skills over and over and over. So many people fail at this stage across all companies due to being unprepared. I can't exagerate this enough.

Make sure when answering any questions at interviews, or how you come across at assessment centres, that you fit it in with the core competencies.

Be yourself.
