What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?
The application process isn't as challenging / stressful as we all believe it will be whilst we are still students. Set aside some time for filling out the applications as some can be lengthy and have difficult questions. Don't be afraid to use experiences from outside of academia for answers, a lot of my answers were in relation to being on the committee of a sports club.
Do you have any interview tips?
Relax and be yourself, it can also be stressful for the person conducting the interview. Don't worry about filling silences, these are common and often for the interviewer to write down / think about your answer or think what to ask next.
I got the usual give me an example of when you have done this well or not so well and how it can be improved. Why do you want to go into civil engineering along with a small amount of technical questions, but they were maybe year 2 level at uni so nothing too technical.
