Job Review
Graduate Management Trainee at Taylor Wimpey
at Taylor Wimpey

What are the best and worst things about your job? Best:
Welcoming and friendly company culture.

Fair salary, expenses & benefits.

Depth of experience.

Exposure to senior management.

Opportunity to work with respected industry professionals on landmark projects.

Frequent training.
Leaving projects half way through completion as your rotation ends can be difficult if you have had a lot of input.

The amount of travel involved means car mileage takes a hit.

You essentially start a "new job" every six months and need to start from square one not just in terms of getting to grips with new information and processes but also in terms of networking and building up contacts in your new office.
What is the annual salary for this role? Starting salary: £23,000 - £25,000
Current salary: £23,000 - £25,000
What hours do you actually work, on average?
08:30 - 17:00
What advice would you give to someone applying to this role? Application Advice: A distinct feature of this programme is the requirement to move office every six months. Although TW helps you with each move, it would be unwise to apply if you aren't comfortable with this. Don't worry if your degree is unrelated to construction/house building as long as you possess a sensible outlook and a willingness to learn. TW is looking for the right type of person regardless of technical know-how.
Interview Advice: Taylor Wimpey has a great set of core values and tries to recognise the best in everyone. At an interview be prepared, be honest and be confident of yourself but be aware that you don't necessarily need to be the loudest person in the room to get noticed. With house building constantly featuring in the press (both good and bad), it would be a good idea to make sure you have an up to date knowledge of current industry news which you could link to TW. An idea of the business model could also be helpful.
