Application Advice:

Read The Telegraph, think about the audience, think how you would appeal to them, what is it missing?, what would you change/make better? What would you add to the company? Think creatively and use your advantage as a young person and consumer of news.

Interview Advice:

Come well-prepared, but not with rehearsed answers. Be ready for anything, read the news for weeks before, know what's happening and what's in the paper on that day and the previous weeks. Get to know the website and be able to critique it. Who are your heroes/inspirations? Why?

Application Advice:

Be honest and show that you can be great to be around inside and outside of work - It isn't all about your credentials but more about you, and your willingness to learn

Interview Advice:

If someone in the workplace was pushing you to focus on one thing when you know your priority should be another, how would you deal with this situation?

Application Advice:

Do it! It has been such a valuable experience for me so far. And I am so excited about being here even two months into the role. I can't wait to see what else I can learn. My advice when applying is to really just try and be yourself. Let your personality shine through, as this is probably the most important thing.

Interview Advice:

The assessment day was a lot better than I feared. Although it was very emotionally draining. I wanted the place so much and really didn't expect to get it. All the applicants on the day were very nice and friendly. We were asked prior to the day to create a short presentation. This was the first task we had to do, which I found very nerve racking but luckily we only had to talk in front of the two assessors. We got set group tasks after this.

Application Advice:

Don't just focus on your suitability for a position from an experience perspective. TMG are keen on bringing on people who are the right cultural fit for the business.

Application Advice:

Don't try too hard, as they can tell, instead be honest and let your natural enthusiasm shine through. Try and be as relaxed as possible and don't get too worried about filming yourself.

Interview Advice:

Don't be too nervous! Relax and remember that your talent has gotten you here so far, it'd be a shame to let nerves ruin it. During the group interview try not to talk over everyone else just to get your point across. They're looking to see you can work in a team as well don't forget!

Make sure you know the style and what the department you're applying for covers. Who are your favourite columnists? What was the last interesting thing you read from them? What improvements could be made?

Think of questions to ask them once the they've finished speaking to you.

Stay enthusiastic throughout!

Application Advice:

Don't be worried about a perceived lack of experience, or daunted by the girl at your assessment day braying about having done 10 internships before. You're all equal at that stage, so work hard in preparation - harder than everyone else, you'll know when you're doing that - and you'll be fine.

Interview Advice:

Know the publication inside out, be it the magazine, section or paper as a whole. Have a list of sections and writers and previous articles ready to mention even if you've never read it.

Then just be nice, and be a bit aware of the general media/news landscape, too.

Application Advice:

Be yourself, make sure your best attributes shine through but also your enthusiasm. Your CV and cover letter should be unique and engaging so don't always do the same thing. Take an active interest in the company your applying for, the shows they make, the kind of thing they produce and it will show in your application.

Application Advice:

Be confident in yourself and sell yourself well. Have good ambition and your own idea's. You don't have to be the finished article, be someone who is willing to learn and work hard.

Interview Advice:

Be prepared for any possible question, research which they have been doing recently, so you have an understanding of the department. Be confident in yourself and what you have done before and show a willingness to learn and grow in the job.

Application Advice:

For this particular role my advice would be to make sure you research the ins and outs of being a Project Manager. Don't get too bogged down in the requirements for print/online skills as at this level they can be picked up quickly by a bright candidate. One of the most important things is personality - you have to come across as calm under pressure, highly organised and have great communication skills, as this role is all about the way you communicate information.

Interview Advice:

If you were applying to work here within the next couple of months my advice would be to make sure you understand the business. It is going through huge change at the moment and candidates should be aware of this.
