What are the best and worst things about your company?
You get lots of exposure to different areas of the business during placements and can basically design your own first year doing placements where you like which is pretty good. Good exposure to EMT and SMT. Seems like a slightly backwards graduate scheme - you often don't understand the exact role you are signing yourself up to and it isn't really based on your performance during placements. People manage to manoeuvre transfers for themselves within the business but this is often done in a pretty underhand way. Think it will be challenging to progress to management as people rarely leave the company and when they do middle management positions are very rarely re-filled.

What are the best and worst things about your company?
Friendly staff with great knowledge and experience. Challenging and engaging work. Support for career development training. People are almost always willing to help. Opportunities to take on projects and initiate ideas that make a difference and can get you noticed - be prepared for scrutiny though! Satisfaction of knowing you are helping to improve customers' experience.Workload prioritisation can be problematic if everything is urgent. Sometimes difficult to find information. Some IT systems are not up to standard.

What are the best and worst things about your company?
The opportunities to develop and learn within the business are fantastic. I am currently completing my MSc supported by the business which will enable me to take on more responsibility and progress to more senior roles in the near future. UK Power Networks offers an environment that can promote success for individuals that are driven and focused in succeeding in their given profession. The remuneration that is offered to graduates is the best I came across when applying to other graduate schemes and when living in central London is a great benefit. During my first year, which is when rotational placements take place, there is no structure/path in place that helps to guide graduates. Mentors are assigned, but I only met that individual once and in relation to organising placements in different directorates, graduates are simply left to fend for themselves.

What are the best and worst things about your company?
Very hands on approach in operational roles. Real world engineering. Due to being a utility it will always be busy and jobs are relatively secure.Old systems, old gear, huge bureaucracy, very difficult to change executive and manager opinions. The company is very much against movement to other roles in the first years. There is no reward based on performance. Salary is defined just by how long you have been in the company. There is no other scaling option. Bad politics/relations among the different directories. Huge focus on cost reduction and not on quality product.
