Application Advice:

If you can demonstrate a clear interest in brands and branding then you will be remembered as someone who has a real passion for the job. A lot of people apply with similar qualifications so it is what your interests are and what makes you an individual that counts.

Interview Advice:

If you could invite 3 people dead or alive to a dinner party, who would they be?

Application Advice:

Think about your brand piece carefully- it's really important you demonstrate your passion for brands and your opinion on them, not just what they do.

Interview Advice:

Be prepared for a tiring but interesting day! You'll need to prepare a presentation and then you will be given a wide variety of tasks, both individual and team based. Always think about showing your understanding and talking through your logic- most of the time the answer itself is less important compared to describing well how you got there.

Application Advice:

At the heart of everything you say, make it clear why you love brands and branding.

Interview Advice:

Have some brands in the back of your mind that you love/hate/find interesting and some good reasons why.

Application Advice:

Be passionate, show that you're capable of original thought and don't try and bluff something you don't know. We hire people who are articulate, passionate about brands and bright enough to learn on the job. You don't have to arrive with all the answers and experience, just the willingness to learn.

Interview Advice:

Take the time to listen to the question being asked, don't be afraid to inject a little humour and let your personality shine through. We are not a big corporate machine, we're real people who want to work with funny, intelligent, charismatic individuals.

Application Advice:

Make sure you understand the purpose of brands and branding - it's not just about a logo. It's about the vision and the mission of the brand and what their greater purpose is.
The brand essay is the most important part of your application.

Interview Advice:

The initial interview:
Questions about your CV and brand essay, plus standard interview questions such as a time you overcame a challenge, an example of great teamwork, your strengths and weaknesses, why you think you would be a good fit for the company and for branding etc.

The phase 2 all day session:
Team work tasks; individual tasks e.g. simple data analysis, copy/prose writing skills.
A "round robin" series of short but intense interviews with various directors covering our pillars: insight, branding, innovation, strategy.

Application Advice:

Read up on brands and branding. Know about innovation, branding, strategy and insight - at least a few case studies. You've got to be interested by brands and be prepared to talk about them. Think about your favourite brands, how you interact with them, who's doing interesting things and disrupting the market.

It's good to be able to think analytically and creatively i.e. using left brain and right brain thinking. Be enthusiastic about brands.

If you don't enjoy the interviews or the assessment days, you probably won't enjoy the job.

Interview Advice:

Sorts of tasks you're asked to do:

Pre-prepared task involving creating and pitching a new brand. Be prepared to defend your idea against questions from experienced brand experts.

Some group tasks to assess teamwork, decision making, logical thinking.

Individual tasks assessing maths/analytical capability and creative capability.

Application Advice:

Do some background, brand consultancy is a relatively niche area - often confused with the more executional aspects of branding (advertising, design & visual identity). If you are really interested in brand strategy, innovation (new product development), insight/market research then this could be the place for you.

Interview Advice:

3 Stages:
Written application - cover letter, CV & short piece on a brand you find interesting
2-on-1 interview
Assement Day - lots of fun tasks testing your suitability to the job, from pitching a new brand to quick fire one on one interviews with the directors, and usually a fun team orientated task at the end of the day!
