What is it really like to be a marketing executive? We take a closer look at job reviews straight from Marketing Executives in the field to bring you an honest and informative overview. Enjoy!

1. What does a Marketing Executive actually do day-to-day?

“I attend meetings with agencies to discuss design. I discuss internally to review changes to brands and plans for the next year with research teams and sales teams. I track my brands performance through online sales databases and internal figures. I look after the day to day administration of my brands.”

“Daily responsibilities vary day-to-day between liaising with and managing agency partners, presenting to the Sales team, managing internal launch programmes and New Product Innovation and managing ongoing digital execution.”

“I don’t think there is a ‘typical day’ in marketing – which is why it’s so enjoyable! There are always a number of different projects going on at the same time, so you can regularly be responsible for arranging events such as conferences, coordinating the launch of new products and conducting market research, all at the same time. This means that there are very few occasions when you are bored at work!”

2. What are the best and worst things about being a Marketing Executive?

“Real responsibility, a real member of a great team and getting to make a real difference to big UK brands. Very busy- lots of emails and often working to short timelines.”

“I have responsibility for numerous different projects which allows me to work with a wide variety of people from around the globe. The main positive about working for the company is definitely the atmosphere; everyone is really open and approachable – even those in senior management positions. This creates a really friendly environment which is very supportive. This sounds really cheesy, but I love my job and so can’t think of any negatives!”

“Real responsibility from day one. Supported by line manager and colleagues, everyday is different. Constantly being challenged through different projects. Fantastic working environment. A lot of stakeholder management.”

3. What’s the average salary?

£25,000 – £27,000

4. What are the working hours like?

Average hours of 9am – 6pm

5. Do you have any interview tips?

“The assessment centre lasts 2 and a half days and tests things such as numerical and verbal reasoning. However, the best advice I can offer is to just be yourself; there are plenty of opportunities during the event to socialise with current employees and gain insight into the company, and if you’re relaxed and genuinely interested in the company then it definitely gets noticed.”

“Do your research and be able to demonstrate your passion for the company. Don’t limit your research to Centrica itself, look into the specific stream you have applied to and be able to demonstrate why you’ve chosen this area of the business to enter. Utilise our website as much as possible, have a read through our graduate blogs and check out our various social media channels to learn more about the programmes we have on offer. “

“The best advice when applying to any role is to research the company and make sure that you have an interest in it. Also, the best advice is to just be yourself in interviews.”
