How would you describe your job in 2-3 lines?During the 12 month rotational Graduate Scheme I have moved around the business and held real responsibility in a number of high-profile roles.
What do you do actually do on a day-to-day basis?Typically, Graduates act as Project Managers - engaging stakeholders, defining project priorities, liaising with teams across the business, owning the critical path, meetings with the leadership team etc - but it's difficult to define a typical day. At the moment, I am working in IT with all the teams in the department to manage project deployments. Before this, I was the Project Manager for Tesco's Grocery Application on Android Smartphones and before that I was re-creating a 1960's Tesco store.
What are the main positives and negatives of your job?Real responsibility; exposure to senior managers; interesting, challenging and engaging work; encouragement to see, understand and learn as much as possible; lots of relevant training; plenty of opportunities to contribute to the business; a lot of opportunity to move around the business.
What qualifications and skills are needed to be great at this job?A Degree in any discipline and, more importantly, an eagerness to learn and further yourself. Apart from the right attitude, there are few pre-requisites as all the training and support is provided during the Scheme.
What are the best and worst things about your company specifically?Tesco is a huge business with plenty of opportunities. There is a company gym, travel opportunities, sabbatical allowances, share scheme and much more.
Please describe your interview process and give any other advice for candidates applying for a similar role at this company (e.g Useful books etc.)Think commercially, have a very good look at the website and understand the Tesco values.
What are your real working hours?9am to 5pm. Each day is different: sometimes I start/leave early, sometimes I start/leave late. It depends on what I'm delivering, but I am very much encouraged to keep a good work/life balance.
What is the salary for this role (in £s)?£27,000 - £29,000. My salary was reviewed during the Scheme and will be reviewed again once I have finished the Scheme.
How would you rate the following?
1 = None at all; 10 = A huge amount
Would you choose to do this job again?Definitely
