What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?
Stay patient with the first year of your course. It's rather difficult and can sometimes be laborious but that's the way learning any trade will be, more to the point any job you first start will be. Persevere and aim to hit goals, set them regularly, there is nothing in this trade that can't be done. Always show respect and if you don't understand a task or question, ask again to clarify. There's no harm in asking a question. Also, try to stay focused. There are days in the job that can be slow, and there are days where endless problems can occur but the more focused you are the easier those situations are to overcome.
Do you have any interview tips?
Research the company you are applying for. If during the research something pops up that intrigues you about their history, or certain buildings or types of work they do/undertake, DO NOT hesitate to ask. Ask questions as well as your possible future employer is asking you questions. Avoid 'erm' and 'er' in between speaking and sentences. Be confident and show positive body language. If the interview (which most are) is formal, wear smart formal clothing. This also portrays a good image to the employer.
