Application Advice:

Be honest throughout in your answers on the application form. Don't cut any corners and if you make it to the video interview stage, dress as if it was a real interview.

Interview Advice:

Preparation is key. I was required to undertake a ten minute presentation on a property related matter to two senior partners. I learnt the presentation word for word and presented in front of family and friends on numerous occasions beforehand.

Also, at the questioning stage, do not be afraid to say you don't know. Alternatively, you can ask to go back to the question at the end if your mind has gone blank.

Application Advice:

Go through the job description and think of examples in which you have fulfilled various roles. Highlight these at the interview also.

Interview Advice:

Don't be nervous! When I met my to-be line manager and head of HR who were leading the interview I was immediately put at ease and discovered how friendly and approachable they were. It is also a good idea to take along any work you have done on any projects on previous placements or university modules.

Application Advice:

Tailor your answer specifically to the company. When applying for a number of different grad schemes it's easy to try and copy/paste generic answers. Take the time to tailor your answer to the company. Have a look on the website to get an idea of the values/ethos they promote.

Interview Advice:

Prepare!

Look at the company website to get an understanding of how the business is set up (get an understanding of the different teams within the business and the markets they operate in). Have a basic understanding of the local property market (level of rents/values, prominent sectors etc.) as well as the broader national market.

Demonstrate that you are keen, adaptable and willing to learn. Experience is always useful but not necessary - I was successful in my application with extremely limited experience.
Importantly, be honest. Don't embellish the truth to make you sound more experienced or competent than you actually are - remember that as a graduate you are being invested in to learn and to develop.

Interview Advice:

Understand the organisation and its values. It is important to demonstrate that you understand the target markets of Bidwells and the opportunities and challenges that these markets present.
Be able to demonstrate that you have a knowledge of the different divisions of the organisation and how they interact with one another.

Application Advice:

Be passionate about the rural life and everything that goes along with it, and be interested in the area you would be working in! You do end up living in a rural area, so the life has to be one you will love.

To be seriously considered applicants are required to have a RICS accredited degree, this is essential to speed up the chartership progress. I did a RICS accredited masters course.

Interview Advice:

Be up to date on all rural matters. It's a constantly evolving environment, with big changes underway. It is so important to know what is going on, and this often involves having good local knowledge (for example, what sort of farming practices are carried out in the area, what are the most common breeds of livestock in the area).

Application Advice:

Although office based, good practical knowledge of the Agricultural industry and practical experiences really does help you stand out. Knowing what your clients have to consider, and day to day elements that can and will effect decisions will enable you to full fill the role.

If you are someone who loves the agricultural industry, and wants to help individual farmers to develop their businesses and remain competitive in the ever changing industry, then this is the job for you!

Interview Advice:

Make sure you are up to date with current agricultural affairs, know the current price of Wheat or pint of milk.

Don't be afraid to put your opinions across on hot topics, such as GM crops or the Badger cull

Application Advice:

Make sure your CV is up to date and, as importantly, neat, accurate and clear. Spelling, punctuation and formatting errors can give as bad an impression as turning up to an interview looking scruffy! Other than that, say not just what you have done but what you took from it.

Interview Advice:

Listen to the question and think through your answer before speaking. People who start speaking straight away without thinking have a habit of garbling an answer out in a mixed up order. 5 seconds of silent thinking can go a long way.

Bidwells are a friendly organisation and want to see that you are a friendly and approachable person. On your application form think of varied examples of different experiences that show you as a person and not just your degree.

Interview Advice:

My interview with Bidwells was one of the more relaxed and friendliest interviews and this reflects the oganisation as a whole. They were interested in me as a person outside of university/ education and are keen for to you be enthusiastic in getting involved in the organisation be it social, sporting or networking. You do need to be aware of industry/ market changes that have an impact on your chosen field in the present but also those that might have an impact in the long term.

Bringing examples of your work into an interview is great way to demonstrate your ability. I had an A3 folder of drawings as well as a scrap book of projects I had been involved in on any work experiences/ placements.
