#NAME?
, at CGIRead the full review »
Application Advice:
Bearing in mind that I applied for a graduate developer role: prove technical skills if you have any, show eagerness and know facts about the company so that your enthusiasm is evidenced. Interviewers are always impressed by candidates who know their company and to a larger extent the industry that you want to work in, so maybe have some choice news articles you want to reference; "oh did you hear about the new version of PHP, such and such feature is going to be a game changer!"
Interview Advice:
Standard assessment centers, group exercises and interviews. Don't be a loudmouth and don't say nothing either. Remember that getting hired is a 2 way street and that if you didn't get the job it doesn't mean that you're "no good", it just means that you would have been a bad fit (and therefore would have had a terrible time) at the company.

Application Advice:
Make sure you specify the actual technologies you've used, rather than simply specifying the type of developer you are (frontend, backend, etc.)
Interview Advice:
The assessment centre tasks are fine - you aren't asked unanswerable questions "to test your ability to think outside the box" (as can sometimes be the stereotype of multinationals).

Data Analyst, at CGIRead the full review »
Application Advice:
Anyone from any background can apply, and there is such a wide range of opportunities available that you can do anything. I think to CGI it is more important that you are the right type of person for them that can add to their team, and even if you don't currently have the knowledge, if you show the enthusiasm and ability to learn as quickly as possible then they will want you to work for them.
Interview Advice:
Make sure you do your research! Research into what they do, where they operate, who they deal with and most importantly, who their competitors are. Be polite and honest and practice your team working skills in advance.

Great starting role to get experience but unless you work hard to keep your career on a 'path' you may get lost amongst the other great individuals working for the company.

The interview is well structured and the company expects you do your research, research they make available to you before your final stage of assessment. Try to be proactive in the final stage of the assessment and it's your chance to shine amongst the other highly commendable candidates.

Application Advice:
explain that you are interested in a particular area such as Security, programming etc but ensure that you are clear about wanting to try other things and that you are flexible with travel arrangements.
Interview Advice:
part of the assessment centre involved a group exercise. Ensure that you show the assessors that you are able to both listen and take on board other people's comments but then just as easily provide your opinion as well. Where you disagree with a colleague, ensure that you explain clearly, and kindly why you disagree and offer an alternative solution.
There is also an aptitude test which unfortunately cannot really be practiced.
There is also a one hour interview. Cgi try to ensure that someone relating to the field in which you are interested in will conduct the interview. In this they asked for all sorts of typical interview style questions such as strengths and weaknesses (my advice would be just be honest about weaknesses... Don't say something like "I'm a perfectionist". I said that I wasn't very confident at presenting in front of crowds but that I'm seeking to improve this). They also asked about examples of difficult colleagues or other sort of scenario example questions.

SSW Apps Support Analyst, SS&W Application support / Oil and Gas at CGIRead the full review »
Application Advice:
Check your spelling! Sounds silly but is all too frequent to come across misspelling in CVs etc. Also be sure not to stretch the truth too far as you may get asked about something you've written in the interview and could become a cropper.
During an assessment centre be sure to chat with other candidates and staff present in the room whilst waiting around etc. This shows you are approachable and easy to talk to/communicate with. Remember you will be working with some of the candidates during the group exercise so speaking with them beforehand will make this part of the process much easier.
In group exercises be careful not to talk over anyone or be negative. If you do not agree with someone's suggestion, try phrasing it differently than flat out saying no. Be inclusive; if you notice a member of the group is being left out or quiet, try and involve them by asking their opinion etc.
Interview Advice:
Read through the hints and tips page and prepare examples for the core competencies listed. Where possible try and prepare several examples for each competency with some variance.
Also make sure to prepare several questions yourself. This shows you have an interest in learning more than what's available on the web to read and can provide another conversational point.
Speak clearly and concisely, take a breath if you can tell you are going to stumble on something you're about to say.

Application Advice:
Make sure your CV is fully up to date. Prepare for the interview/ assessment day.
Interview Advice:
Ensure you know everything you have stated on your CV. The interviewer went through my CV line by line and asked me to expand on points I had made.
The open day is an interesting fun experience where you will meet new people. Ensure you participate throughout the day and relax.
Do some background research on the company.

Application Advice:
Research CGI and consider how your own background (e.g. work experience, soft skills) applies to working there.
Make sure you do some practise tests for areas such as inductive reasoning.
Interview Advice:
I found the Assessment Centre on the day to be very relaxed as everyone I met on the day were very friendly - it consists of an interview and a group work assessment task.
During the interview, I discussed my CV / application / written assignment. Ensure you can talk in detail anything you have put on your application and CV so that you can go into it in detail whilst showing how these skills would fit into CGI.
Also make sure you do your research on CGI - what projects are they currently focused on / what impresses you about the company / why do you want to work at CGI?
The group work was gauging how you work with other people in a team - you are set a task and given a time limit to come on a decision to complete the task, for example you are stuck on an island, what should be done to escape it?

Focus on Extra-curriculars. A technology background with good inter-personal skills will get you much further than strong focus on technology to the detriment of inter-personal

Time management is very important in the group exercise - be that person constantly glancing at the clock, and time everything.

Systems Analyst, Space, Defence and National Security at CGIRead the full review »
Application Advice:
Make it as clear as possible what IT and problem solving skills you have. They don't have to be directly applicable but they want to know you can learn. For the IT positions specifically, you don't have to be from an explicit IT background (I came from Physics) but you need to have some experience with computing.
Interview Advice:
My top tip would be to make sure you have a good knowledge of the company itself and what they do. Also think about other companies which operate in the same areas and are competitors to CGI.
For my interview I had a one on one interview followed by a group assignment.
Try as much as possible to be yourself - the interviewers seemed to respond very positively to people who showed good interaction with the other interviewees and the interviewers themselves (they are looking for people who can communicate with clients as well as work in teams). In the group assignment don't be too aggressive with your opinions - make sure you're contributing but don't drown other people out and make sure you listen to others.

Application Advice:
Don't exaggerate your experience, companies do not expect you to already be a successful project manager whilst you were at university. They do expect you to be realistic about your abilities and understand your strengths versus your weaknesses. The best approach you can take to an application is to apply the skills you actually have picked up to the requirements they might want of their new joiner.
Interview Advice:
Be yourself, but prepare adequately so that you understand your own CV and experiences and can answer questions about your university/working life without hesitation. Do not use lots of filler words, such as "like" and "erm"; be confident in yourself and your interviewers will be confident in you too.

Application Advice:
Be truthful to yourself and who you are; don't try to pretend to be the best at everything as the interviewers will see right through the pretense.
Interview Advice:
If you don't know the answer to a question, or don't understand, do not be afraid to say 'I don't know'. Realistically, everyone has different skills and this answer would help the interviewer understand where you will fit in to the company.
