Industry: Property & House Building Department: Office Agency

What are the best and worst things about your job?

The flexibility and variety of work. Everyday is different in the world of property, as the job changes when working for different clients.

Meeting people - Working in agency means I facilitate viewings for all types of people and businesses which can be fascinating.

Giving back to the industry - GVA offer the opportunity for apprentices to promote their career paths and raise the profile of the industry in schools, which I personally feel passionate about.

Application Advice:

Ideally, I would advise a candidate to carry out work experience at first to see what role within the property industry best suits their character. This should then be included in the application to provide evidence of why this role would be ideal for them.

Interview Advice:

I would suggest the candidate be themselves and show enthusiasm for the role they wish to start. I would also advise that they carry out some research on the company in advance to show true interest in joining the business.

Application Advice:

Keep the information that you provide about yourself relevant. Make sure what you put on paper provides a clear representation of your work ethic, career goals and qualities you can bring to a team.

Interview Advice:

Be professional both in your physical appearance but also the way that you communicate. If you do not have an answer do not 'blag' your way through, this does not come across well. Be honest and clear with your answer.

Make sure that you also have questions to ask those who are interviewing you. This will give a good impression and demonstrate that you have taken a clear interest in the company and have considered the role.

Best:

The people are great and there are many great opportunities.

Worst:

The air-con is always on too high...even throughout the winter!

Best:

High levels of support and training offered to graduates to pass their APC.

Worst:

Due to the size of the company there is a certain disparity between London and the regional offices.

Best:

As a graduate the APC training is really good for me and I was not provided anything in my previous job.

My line manager is more that happy for me to go to different offices to ensure that I can make the most of the training sessions available for the APC.

It appears as though there is a good opportunity to progress my career following qualification.

Worst:

The APC structured program was changed very quickly without any discussion to the current candidates that I was aware of. This has lead to those interim candidates looking to sit the APC at the end of the year 'worrying' about the support that they will get and when.

No flexible working hours. I work best early morning and would be nice to have the opportunity to change my hours to more around the 8-4:30 role

Best:

Friendly and inclusive environment.
Seems to have a relatively diverse range of people and backgrounds, in comparison to competitors.
Good reputation in the industry.

Worst:

There seems to be a slight disconnect between HR and company directors, so it's not always clear what the correct processes are.
