Application Advice:

Be honest about yourself and never lie on your application form as that will come out during the interview. Work experience in pharmacy can be difficult to obtain. However if you have experience in other sectors such as retail all those skills are still valuable within the community pharmacy sector.

Interview Advice:

The interview process is all about getting to know you as a person, The interviewer is looking to see if you are hard-working and enthusiastic individual. Do your homework on the company and what values it stands for and highlight if those values mirror your own. The interview process is not about testing your clinical knowledge it's about whether you are right for the company and whether the company is right for you.

It is a hands-on role which entails putting the customer first in everything thing you do. If you can portray that you are vigilant and inquisitive and willing to go the extra mile for customers and your team amongst other values, you've shown you have the aptitude for the job.

Interview Advice:

Firstly, Smile and be yourself.
Questions are competency based which require you to give examples of when you displayed teamwork, used excellent communication skills within a team to get a task done, used time management, went above and beyond for a customer amongst other skills and values.

Make sure you apply and get a lot of experience with a vast range of leading companies and independents whilst at university, before your pre reg year.

Interview Advice:

Most are competency based now so visit the pre registration manual on the GPhC website and go through the competencies using them to think of examples of what experience you already have to show you will potentially be a competent pharmacist. These interviews in community are not clinically based at all - advantage/disadvantage for some.
