As well as work experience and relevant university work, focus on your transferrable skills. A degree won't fully prepare you for the work, you'll inevitably have no idea what you're doing when you start, but the skills you have will help you deal with that.

Prepare to be lied to. Also it is not a transnational grad scheme, you will not be working with the Italian branch or travelling to Italy. You may get one phone conference call with them as part of a challenge they set during the end of the first year.

Show that you are determined and can work well in a team. Being an engineer means working with other engineers, operators, project managers and many others. You should show you are a good communicator. Show you are adaptable and can react quickly and calmly when your work doesn't go the way you expected or a problem arises.
