If someone told you, you could qualify as a solicitor in 6 years without the associated cost of going to university, while earning a good salary and developing amazing skills and experience along the way, would you believe them? Well you should! The Solicitor Apprenticeship does just that. We know university isn’t for everyone, but that shouldn’t be the end of a successful legal career; in fact, this could be just the beginning.
Last year, we did something a little different – Womble Bond Dickinson and Bristol City Council teamed up to recruit for our Apprentice Solicitor programmes together and, following that success, we are sharing the recruitment again. We’re looking for talented people to join us to be part of this unique opportunity to continue to shape the future our Apprenticeship programmes.
We’re a force to be reckoned with and together we have an ambitious vision to build a better Bristol that includes success for everyone in the city. This is where you come in. You’ll be employed either by WBD or BCC and throughout your apprenticeship you will study first for Law Degree and then to qualify as a Solicitor whilst contributing to our legal work and the city of Bristol.
Now how does that sounds for starters?
Between us, we have a great track record in recruiting, developing and retaining apprentices across a range of different functions and the Solicitor Apprenticeship route is no different.
Ok, I hear you ask, “What will I actually be doing?” We can promise you it’s not all admin and filing! This is a real opportunity to get involved, initially you will be shadowing and supporting the legal work as well as spending some time learning how our businesses operate and how we manage our legal casework. As your studies progress and you gain experience, you will become increasingly involved in legal work yourself. As you progress through your apprenticeship you’ll build a portfolio of the experience you gain and the tasks you’ve completed to evidence your skills development.
We’re training our future generation of lawyers and that means giving you access to great quality work and becoming actively involved in providing legal services to our clients when you are ready to do so. Your work will increase in complexity as you develop through the programme and we will support you to gain confidence before taking on the more complex or challenging legal tasks. We are as keen as you are for you to succeed.

We’re looking for candidates with good academics at A level (or equivalent) as a minimum and can consider candidates who will receive their A level results in August 2020. Please note these Apprenticeships are not open to those who already have a Law Degree or Graduate Diploma in Law (or LPC/BPTC). Beyond that, we are looking for people with a commitment to Bristol and its surrounding areas who are able to demonstrate a few core skills: team-working, communication, creative and analytical thinking, an ability to build strong and lasting relationships and a drive to succeed.
