Why did you choose your company?
One of the things I liked about the Port of London Authority was the wide range of work done here and the fact that I could learn about so many things.
What do you do on a day-to-day basis?
I am working on a number of projects, including the implementation of software used for licensing purposes, among other things. I’m also working on the authority’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, a system of integrated applications designed to manage many elements of the business, including human resources and finance.
Which skills/experience are key for your role?
There is the technical side which is vital, but the ability to communicate is extremely important too. There has to be a balance between skills and being able to communicate properly.
What are the best things about your job?
It’s not far from where I live, which is a bonus – but the cherry on top has been the fact that people who work here are so lovely, so helpful, which means I’m never afraid to ask for help.
How does the graduate programme/scheme work?
What sets your company apart from their competitors as a top graduate employer?
It’s a unique organisation for many reasons, as there’s just so much going on.
What’s next for you after the programme finishes?
I hope to progress in my career at the PLA.
What advice would you give someone applying for a role with your company?
What I would say is – make it clear in your interview what you want from the job. They will know who they want, the kind of person they want to employ. But it’s important too for them to know what their employees expect.
