Why did you choose Tulip for an apprenticeship?
I chose Tulip as an apprenticeship because they offered the most variable job description and also the location for me was perfect. The skill set I would learn would be substantially more than if I were to work at a different company.
What key skills/experience have you gained so far from the Tulip Apprentice Programme?
So far, I have gained various engineering skills such as Electrical maintenance, Mechanical Maintenance, Welding, PLC Programming, Materials Science, Engineering Mathematics and Thermodynamics.
What are the best things about your job?
The best parts to my job are having to walk into something different every day. Because the job is partly reactive as well as being pro-active, that mean unexpected breakdowns occur throughout the day. I mostly enjoy making use of my initiative when working under pressure to meet the production time restrictions.
What sets your company apart from their competitors as a top apprentice employer?
From what I’ve learnt by discussing different job roles with others at College, I can see that the Tulip apprenticeship offers a much more varied job skill set put to everyday use. Other competitors seem to channel apprentices down certain skills, whereas Tulip offer a broader scale to suit engineers’ preferences. They tend to work to engineer’s strengths so jobs are completed more efficiently.
What is your proudest achievement so far as a Tulip Apprentice?
Recently I had been put forward for the Food Processing Awards and managed to win the Young Engineer of the Year 2018 Award.
What advice would you give someone applying for an apprenticeship with Tulip?
I would say to not judge a book by its cover. The Tulip apprentice job description shows just a glimpse of what skills the company can offer to train you up in. Every day is different so the amount of new experiences you will come across will be unmeasurable. Each experience teaches you a new skill, so learning at Tulip is endless.
