I would say that it is important to ask yourself what attracts you to the company - be clear in your mind as to the contributions you can make to the various business units as well as partaking in CSR initiatives.

Interview Advice:

At the interview, just be yourself - the company welcomes engaging and enthusiastic candidates. Make sure you have an understanding of the trends impacting the company both overall and its individual business units (F&R, TRTA, Legal).

Sell hard on business skills, most notable market research and the ability to compile and analyse data.

If you can combine skillset with market knowledge of financial services, legal services and understanding of electronic information providers then you are onto a winner.

Interview Advice:

The interview for the business graduate scheme is very sales focused, with one analytical section. Ability to generate a coherent story about yourself and a topic you have just learned, and then present this story to an audience will be valuable. Also be prepared to think up and pitch a product to a panel of judges.

Best:

Overall great culture and invests heavily in graduates. You are part of a cohort of ~40 young professionals across business, finance, sales and tech schemes.

Opportunities to network and grow your career through relationships are abundant.

Worst:

Business graduate program specfic

Lack of technical/ business skills training to ensure that all business graduate candidates achieve a minimum standard in problem solving and analysis.

Expected to pick up these skills on the job, and due to the variety of roles in which graduates find themselves (product, strategy, business development) both in terms of day to day work requirements and different manager, base skill levels will develop at different rate allowing some graduates to become much more employable than others by the end of the scheme. Other factors play into the generation of this gap, but achieving a base level at the beginning may serve to change this and increase graduate impact in their teams.

Focus on soft skills training and market knowledge was great, but in particular soft skills training flopped due to lack of curation towards the varied needs of each graduate type. Again due to the varied nature of each graduate rotation, each graduate requires support on different things at different times. Making no attempt to find out what was bothering the graduates at specific times and then helping them to solve these issues (i.e. connecting with manager, time management) negatively affected the connection between graduates and the soft skills program.
