What are the Best and Worst things about your job?

Best

There is plenty of opportunity for career progression and the company will support you if you would like to undertake additional training or academic studies. Since being at the company, I have noticed a big shift in the company culture towards being more people focused and opening a dialogue with staff to find out what could be done to improve moral, mental and physical health, and overall performance.
The graduate scheme itself is great and enables you to build a support network, not only with the graduates within your operating company, but across the entire group. Pre-Covid, we had regular social events and training days.

What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Try to find a unique perspective when answering the application questions and use real life examples where possible of when you have shown particular skill sets. Do not rely only on your degree to secure a graduate roles. Many employers are keen to see what other work and life experience you have and how these can be applied to the role you are applying for.

Do you have any interview tips?

Discuss topics that you are passionate about and show off your skill set by talking about previous work/life experiences. Do not rely solely on your academic performance to secure a graduate role. I did not have a construction related degree so I really had to draw on my extra-curricular activities and part time jobs to demonstrate my skill set and I do believe that, in the end, this set me apart from other applicants. Don't be afraid to acknowledge your weaknesses, but ensure you discuss how you plan to improve on these areas e.g. undertaking additional training, part time masters, etc. Also, ensure you have a couple of questions prepared that you can ask the interviewer, whether that is about company culture, a specific scheme you are interested in, a new construction method (modular building). etc.
