Application Advice:
Schlumberger is an energy services company, however the role I'm in is based around IT as this group within the company focus primarily on software and technical services.
Applying for a technology role, first and foremost, you must be confident in yourself and your technical ability.
You also have to thoroughly enjoy technology, be the type of person who is up to date by the hour on latest events in the IT world. Know what's coming and when and be on the ball with it.
Be enthusiastic, again this comes from enjoying technology itself, you will automatically show enthusiasm if you have an interest.
Keep your CV to 2 pages, start with a personal statement.
Interview Advice:
Typically you will be interviewed by people who have a technical ability relative to the work you will be doing. In addition, you will also be interviewed by some form of manager.
You would be assessed on:
Technical Ability & Knowledge - Be gauged on what you know and what you don't.
Willingness to adapt, change and learn - What you don't know, can be taught with some training, Schlumberger focuses heavily on development so don't worry if you don't know something, you can learn it if it's needed.
Confidence and Enthusiasm - Goes without saying, this is prevalent in most roles however historically I've seen IT bods show little enthusiasm in their field, you have to show very keen interest in IT.
Understand the Company - Before being interviewed, understand the roots of the company. You're applying for an IT job in a company which has a wide variety of roles, try to interpret what kind of work you will be doing and how the company views IT, is it an enabler? a revenue generator? a niche? a 'must have'?
Finally, three rules:
1. Dress Smart - Suit, shirt, tie optional.
2. Ask lots of questions - What is involved? How is your infrastructure setup? Will I be doing end-user support? Do you invest heavily in technology?
3. Always ask how the interview went at the end - Whether they are ready to make an offer or not, you will definitely get honest feedback when you ask this question, if you leave it to later, they may not be willing to give you that feedback.

Put across how flexible you are as a person and how mobile you are, as Schlumberger will move you abroad at some point in your career. Show how well you work in stressful situations (Offhsore you are the only person there that can fix your equipment.... When a rig cost 1.5 million dollars a day to run, when you waste time, people will shout at you..)
Make sure you put across your personality!! SLB is very people orientated and you need to be a certain type of person to do the jobs we do. Being academically smart might not make you a good suit for SLB..
Interview Advice:
You do a 5 min presentation about yourself. Pay attention to the time constraint. Usual interview questions can be expected as well as team building (build paper towers etc), math/problem solving tests. And putting together an air valve using a schematic diagram.

Application Advice:
Focus for this specific job is on academic credentials, so lay these out clearly. Provide clear justification for applying for this job in your cover letter. Keep it concise and interesting (though not overly funky!). Formating should be clear to read and easy to follow, but other than that, probably does not make or break your application. Mention where you heard about the job in your cover letter.
Interview Advice:
The interview comprised an academic presentation given to a technical audience, followed by technical questions, and several individual interviews with more technical questions (details were provided in invitation to interview). Be prepared to explain your academic work in detail, to justify any technical choices made, and to clarify. The interviews are very straightforward, with no element if trying to trip you up or catch you unawares - everything serves the purpose of establishing whether you are the right person for the job.
As in life, be nice to people you meet.

Applications are shared globally within SLB. If you are applying to a specific job, you might want to tailor your CV accordingly to that offer but I do recommend adding any extras that might be relevant to the company as a whole.
Interview Advice:
If you are invited to an interview, it is likely that you go through a technical interview and a number of one-to-one interviews. The technical presentation of your choice should be spot on, be prepare for answering tricky questions even if topic is far from oil and gas industry.
Be relaxed, eager and show interest on each of the following interviews; each one of them has potential to result on a job offer.
