What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Try and apply as early as you can and be patient as they sometimes take a while to get back to you. Be honest and provide as much information about previous jobs, experiences and extra curricular activities as you will never know what can catch their eye. You also need to be prepared to move around during the scheme as they require you to be flexible. Most of the roles are not heavily technical as they usually outsource these type of activities so that's something to consider for those who are very technically biased, you're not going to be spending all day doing calculations.

Do your research on the industry and company along with its current affairs as you will probably get a question on this. Know the company's core values. Prepare for competency based questions and calm your nerves, the assessors are not there to catch you out. Just be yourself and everything else will fall into place.
