What are the Best and Worst things about your job?

Best

This is a profession that I have always wanted to work within. Every day is different. I enjoy working as part of a team and continually learning new skills from different colleagues. The team on site are very supportive and it is nice to combine what I have learnt in college with the practical application on-site. I have had the opportunity to work with both first fix and second fix carpenters.

Worst

You have to be prepared to work in all weather conditions.

What is the annual salary for this role?

Starting salary: £13,000 - £15,000

Current salary: £17,000 - £19,000

What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Ensure you carry out research about the company you are interested in working for. Create a detailed curriculum vitae (ensuring everything is spelt correctly). Ask someone to check your application form for you before sending. It is helpful to have a couple of references - so ask a college tutor and perhaps an employer (if you have a current job) who will be happy to provide one. Check with them first before adding them to your cv.

Do you have any interview tips?

Make sure you are punctual. Check the location of the interview before the day so you know where to attend. Take copies of any certificates etc they have requested. It is also helpful to have a copy of your cv to hand in case they ask you questions about it. If you have a portfolio of college work and evidence of practical work, take these with you. Don't forget to have a few questions to ask, too. Make eye contact with the interviewer and shake their hand. Research the type of questions you may get asked at an interview so you can be prepared with an answer.
