What are the Best and Worst things about your job?

Best

The autonomy, I am able to run my department as i see best - there are guidelines but these come with support to navigate. I can actively seek honest feedback and advice from colleagues . I have the flexibility to maintain a good work life balance - attending grandchildren's school plays for example isnt a problem

Worst

There have been times of hi pressure , however there are support mechanisms - it is okay genuinely, to ask for help

What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

My advice would be to carry out some research into our business, with engineering, employers look for and engineering interest in candidates. Examples i have seen are: Hobbies that are practically based, for example programming skills built through building raspberry pie products building PC's repairing vehicles . bicycles etc the other characteristics we look for are based on interaction with others . for example - can the person actively listen to others and put across their thoughts and ideas in the right way. how they react to others etc finally , when given a task to complete in a time, we are not focused on whether the task is completed . more how the person works either alone or within a team

Do you have any interview tips?

try to relax Listen to the question pause a little before answering try to gather your thoughts and formulate an answer before speaking use the glass of water for example, take a sip while thinking if you need to reflect before answering - say so and circle back to it later come Prepared to ask questions and interact with the interviewer look at the person asking the question , keep eye contact be smart in appearance , don't come in shorts ( this has happened ) use the STAR method for answers and don't ramble talk about your skills, relating them to examples - tell me about a time.... remember that the role is an apprenticeship , it is not expected that they know everything about the subject - this is the reason the apprenticeship has a training element. we are looking for people who will be able to complete the apprenticeship and act according to out values
