What are the Best and Worst things about your job?

Best

Sense of purpose and pride, knowing you're helping people stay safe, warm, and have access to hot water, when safe to do so, and potentially saving lives at other times.

My area's quiet, so sometimes you get some downtime, which is nice to spend time with family, or doing odd jobs, or sorting van out etc.

Worst

Some customers, as much as I like interacting with them and keeping them happy, it is not always the case, when you are capping off someone in the middle of winter. Safety is no.1 priority, and sometimes customers don't understand we would rather them be safe and cold then dead.

We do our best for them, and give them means of alternative heating e.g. fan heaters and an electric hob for food, and depending on vulnerability's e.g. disabilities, children under 5, they may be higher priority to sort the issue.

This is the only downside I can think of thus far, and to be fair it's not often this happens, but it does every now and again, and you can be the best people person and the planet, and do all you can for them, but you will never please everyone.

The area being quiet, is brilliant sometimes, but other times you can feel bored and under-stimulated.

What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Try and make yourself stand out, just make sure your cv, is current up to date, short and sweet. Key points, and have a cover letter, short and sell on why you are the right person for the position, without being big headed.

When you get first stage interview, or pre screening process, respond to all emails in good time, and ask any questions if you are unsure.

Do you have any interview tips?

Do your research on both the Gas industry and Cadent, where they are now, and where they are going in the future, and the position you've applied for.

Just be polite and eager. don't waffle on for ages, and don't be quiet for too long, think about your responses, and listen to the questions.

You'll be asked for occasions on when you've demonstrated certain skills, so don't script it, but think of those sorts of questions, and have a few examples in your head, so when you're asked you're not blank and grasping at straws.
