What are the Best and Worst things about your job?

Best

We're a fairly tight-knit, supportive, friendly team, and working with colleagues you can have a laugh and joke with (online and face-to-face, and including the 'boss'), makes every day bearable, even when the workload is high and pressured. Also, we're helping some of the most vulnerable residents in the county, Making a Difference Every Day, as our directorate slogan says. The work can be varied and interesting, and our input is always appreciated.

Worst

The work can be boring and repetitive at times, and getting missing information or guidance can be slow and frustrating. There are numerous challenges nearly every day, which can be motivating at times, but tax a tired brain at others. We serve the computer system rather than it serving us (although they may be fixing that), and it takes far more of our time than it needs to. It can be pressured and busy at times.

What is the annual salary for this role?

Starting salary: £17,000 - £19,000

Current salary: £25,000 - £27,000

What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

The team has accepted applications from people with less relevant experience than you might think. What transferrable skills do you have, and how can you show you are adaptable and learn quickly?

Do you have any interview tips?

Intelligence, willingness to learn, flexibility and openness are the most important personal qualities for a role like this. Skills and knowledge can be taught, but mindset is less easy to change. If you can demonstrate an enquiring and adaptable approach, you're half-way to the job.
