What are the Best and Worst things about your job?

Best

Whenever you get a project you can work on. It had already been completed, but there was no carbon output for it. In this case I did my own research, found assets, did the calculation, put it all nicely into a PP that was similar to a project storyboard, but for carbon. In it I explained the construction work, got to compare and contrast the different results I got from different Excel tools and generally which assets/decisions made the largest carbon contribution. Anything team related outside of the usual office I also love to attend, going on site etc. In my case the job security also seems to be ok, as I am learning to work in water, sustainability and data. None of those which will disappear any time soon I hope.

Worst

There have been a couple of changes at work that have effected me recently. My main mentor has been off for a while, this has resulted in the odd occasion where I struggle to find work. There are also some mind-numbing tasks, like going through an Excel list and ticking off which of these projects has had a carbon calculation completed. Searching through files all day. Explaining your job to the ordinary person may also be a challenge.

Starting salary: £15,000 - £17,000

What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Because it's pretty much a new role there isn't tons of research you can do on it. Every sustainability analyst will work with data and the environment in some way or another to meet the companies objective. The workload therefore can be patchy, but if you're interested in the environment and sustainability you'll understand the opportunities that will grow with the vitality of the sector. So just be passionate about the topic and prove that you can work well.

Do you have any interview tips?

I expressed my interest about the innovative work of sustainability. I was always confident in my ability to learn and overcome challenges. I must of mentioned this a couple of times. I also planned some points I wanted to mention in the interview (related experience and jobs/hobby's). Before this interview, I has had quite a lot of interview experience for my age, there weren't any questions that particularly threw me off, but I always had a good honest response. Have basic examples of work you've done previously, like a difficult situation at work you managed etc.
