What are the Best and Worst things about your job?

Best

I love the autonomy that I get in my role. At the start of my placement I was asked which specific projects within the team I would like to get involved with, and was given most of these projects to own and run myself.

I'm able to get on with my work whilst also having the support of my manager, team & mentor when I need it. It feels great to know that I'm trusted to do this, and means that I have the ability to really 'wow' people when I can deliver above and beyond their expectations.

I also love that as part of my job I get to go on site visits. I can often find myself on a summers day walking around one of our reservoirs, or a place of outstanding beauty on our patch.

Another great thing about the company is the work-life balance. You are not expected to work beyond your hours, weekends or whilst on holiday (in fact my manager told me off for emailing her whilst I was on annual leave!). The company understands that you have a life outside of work, and you get the feeling that they know you'll do your best when you have a great work life balance, feel happy and will contribute more when you are at work.

Worst

As it is a large company, there can be some issues with politics and trying to get things done quickly.

This is usually for very good reason, we have processes in place to protect us & our customers and make sure that we are always doing the right thing, but does take some adjusting to.

What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

They really like candidates who are very keen and enthusiastic about the work that they do. They are looking for people who put our customers at the heart of everything that we do, want to get stuck in and can learn quickly.

Do you have any interview tips?

Questions similar to 'Name a time that you have challenged yourself/achieved something'. The interview for internships/graduate scheme is strengths based so make sure you understand how these work and how to score highly.

They also like to employ individuals not just anyone, so let your real personality shine and you'll come across as genuine!
