What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Focus on learning. Too many people come straight out of university and are already referring to themselves as a 'leader' on their C.V. No one, no matter how book smart you are, is a leader at 21/22. Up until this point you've only learned how to lead yourself. Being a leader of a team, in a global company, is something entirely different and requires a different set of skills.

Be present. Stop focusing on where you want to be in 6, 12, 18 months time and just get on with it. Do your very best at the job you've been given and people will notice. People of our generation have grown up in a culture of narcissism where a good hair day, muscles, or a well timed joke can get you noticed by thousands in a matter of hours. In the workplace, sustained and valiant effort is the only way you will gain the sort of notoriety worth having.

Have a loose picture of where you want to be in ten years but don't always go searching for that next promotion before you even have a foot in the door. Don't ask your interviewer 'So how can I get your job?'. Talk about development, observation.

Do you have any interview tips?

Make a word doc. of commonly asked interview questions (hello Google), and questions you think may come up based on the position you're applying for. Practice these over and over with your mum/dad/friends. Know some stock answers for your run of the mill competency questions, and how to tailor them when those questions are tweaked.

Ask the people around you for honest critque. Do you 'um' too much, stutter, speak too fast or too quiet? All stuff you'd rather have them point out than a HR Manager over the phone when they tell you that you were unsuccessful this time round. Practice presenting in front of a group of friends. You're all going through the same thing, so they should be understanding. Why not all have a go? Make a list of dos and don'ts - they all have to drink for every 'do' you manage to work in, and you have to drink for every don't!
