What are the Best and Worst things about your job?

Best

Ability to build connections and appreciate the perspectives of a number of industry stakeholders.

Excellent training package and potential to travel with work.

Programme can be whatever you make it. If you want to go to a specific company then they're highly unlikely to take you on. The scheme has built up a very good reputation.

Worst

Can feel like an extension of school at times with quite a short leash.

The structure of the scheme is very heavily weighted in the favour of the sponsor companies. At times it feels as if the primary concern is securing future investment from companies as opposed to graduate welfare. The two year scheme duration is a temporary contract, occasionally described as a two year interview with your sponsoring company. A very large percentage of graduates do receive job offers, but up until the final 6 months of the scheme your future feels hugely uncertain.

The downside of doing a number of secondments in a slow moving industry is that it can be difficult to secure meaningful packages of work. It is possible, but requires significant effort.

Training package is almost too extensive, with significant time spent away from work. I think this is a positive overall, but it has resulted in me being absent from work at key times throughout projects. Training isn't always as valuable as it could be and feedback is occasionally dismissed by the programme team.

What is the annual salary for this role?

What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Graduate scheme does take a variety, but overall has a large focus on teamwork and communication skills. Flexibility is also a crucial characteristic.

Do you have any interview tips?

An intense 2-day process. Poor performance in a single task doesn't necessarily mean that you're out of contention. Most succesful candidates thought they'd blown it at one point throughout the assessment centre.

Again, focus on communication and teamwork abilities.
