What are the Best and Worst things about your job?

Best

Learning about a changing and dynamic industry from rotations in departments that a Finance Graduate in another company may not get exposure to.
The support from the colleagues around you who are willing to get you involved and aid your development/learning.
The study support given to finance graduates is of a high quality, you get days off for college and for examinations.
The nature of the graduate scheme enables you to get involved with many different initiatives and at times tailor your own learning in a direction you are interested in.
Camaraderie between all the graduates and the willingness of other graduates to help out with projects.

Worst

Because the graduate scheme consists of a series of placements sometimes in other locations across the country it can be logistically difficult to move and relocate within a limited time frame.

What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Ensure that you express yourself as a well rounded individual throughout each phase of the application process. This can be done by providing a variety of examples when highlighting your qualities and attributes. Remember that Taylor Wimpey appreciates that you are not going to have all the knowledge and skills of a house building expert from day one, however they are interested in candidates that have the "right frame of mind" to learn and develop, so focus on demonstrating this.
Please also research the company and its market (including competitors!) before a telephone/face to face interview as this can impress the interviewers. For the Assessment Day remember to be a team player and be ready to showcase your team playing capabilities.

Do you have any interview tips?

Fundamentally be yourself in a professional and approachable capacity. If you can, some practise with friends or family can boost your confidence. You may be tasked with preparing material beforehand such as a presentation so should ensure that it is tailored to your style of working. Remember if you're given a task to do a presentation with the choice of 2 titles, the interviewers on the day are going to have seen numerous other candidates with the same facts and style of a standard power point. Therefore make yours interesting and interactive by trying to include references to facts unheard of and how those could potentially be relevant. This should help you stand out!
