What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?
GE has an amazing culture which every employee takes on board in their work. I would read very carefully through the values, which can be found on the website, and compare your own values to these. If you think you would be a good fit, specifically include these values in your application to highlight this and explain why. Bear in mind that all applications are reviewed internally first before being sent to specific business areas. Therefore in the early stages, you have to show in your CV that you will fit in with the business. You will have to show why you want the specific job role if you get through to the interview stage.
Do you have any interview tips?
GE doesn't use assessment centres, you have to pass through CV, competency tests, and a video interview, then your CV will go out to specific business areas where the manager will invite you for a phone or face-to-face interview. Therefore you will have the chance to see exactly who your manager will be and potentially meet some of the team you will be working with. The interview was less stressful than I had anticipated. It was conducted in quite a relaxed style asking a mixture of strength based and role specific questions, although no question was too challenging to answer. However, from other interns in different job sectors I have learnt some questions they were asked were very abstract and wanted a creative answer. Clearly there are some straight forward questions HR require all managers to ask applicants, but every manager also asks about topics they are personally interested in too. Just stay true to yourself, and use the interview as a chance to see if you would be happy working for the person interviewing you.
