What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?
Assess the following - do you enjoy the outdoors i.e. in all manner of weather whether it be sunny or rainy? - Do you enjoy management of others, as the majority of site engineering is about communication and leading others? - It is hard work, but equally satisfying if you enjoy the subject area, so have you studied the subject or had any prior knowledge of civil engineering? If not I would focus on that first before applying for a job in the field.

Show your communication skills - key for the role. Be direct with answering any questions, and show humility in all situations. This will get you far in your interview and job should you obtain it.
