What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

I would consider really understanding the areas the bank operates in and how they are different to peers (privately owned etc). I would also say there is a lot of technical knowledge taught during the training so an understanding of valuation and accounting would be helpful.

Definitely apply early and have conviction in your answers. I was told to do a presentation on whether Greece should leave the Eurozone, and I had been following the headlines for a few weeks prior to this, which really helped. Ultimately, they are looking for confident, articulate people they can put in front of clients.

Do you have any interview tips?

Definitely follow the markets for a few months at least prior to the interviews. Know where the major indices are and if you can, try to follow a few companies so you can be prepared to do a stock pitch in the interview.

I got asked brainteasers so brush up on mental maths, and be collaborative in the group exercises.
