What hours do you actually work, on average?

Start: 8:30

Finish: 16:30

What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Choose a path within the geotechnical industry that best suits your skill set, i.e. if you prefer site work and being outside then focus on planning and implementation of GI, also try the design aspects at an early stage to see if it suits you.

If applying to become a geotechnical engineer I would suggest working as an engineering geologist for a year or so at a smaller contractor firm to gain the practical on site experience which will benefit you when planning ground Investigation works in the future. Or at least gain work experience in this sector prior to application.

Do you have any interview tips?

Be honest with experience, let the employer know that you intend to try all aspects of the role and that both design and site work interests you, make it clear that you are willing to work outside on site potentially at weekends or night shifts.
