What are the Best and Worst things about your job?

Best

I'm a graduate in control of a full project acting as the PM for a client which is amazing. The responsibility you are offered is second to none, and the team is so supportive. My favourite part of the work is negotiating with stakeholders and coming to agreement on issues, it's the reason I got into the job, and there is enough depth of knowledge to get stuck in and learn. I am always learning, there is very few quiet days where I can't be picking up some useful knowledge about the industry or talking with colleagues and learning how they are approaching their own issues.

Worst

Because I work client side and don't live near the client, I do a fair bit of travel for work each day, however the Client are very understanding over time management, and provided you can prove to your client you can get the work done and show responsibility, it may be down to their discretion where you specifically work from to achieve a good work life balance.

What is the annual salary for this role?

Starting salary: £25,000 - £27,000

Current salary: £27,000 - £29,000

What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Be honest, If you want to work in a specific role and have aptitude regardless of what degree you have, get involved and speak to people. Arcadis have quality people and not everyone has come into the roles through traditional routes. Especially in Project management, its more about your composure as a person and how you approach situations which can be a really good base line to build on, and Arcadis will help you build your knowledge base.

Do you have any interview tips?

There are several stages of the assessment, a video interview which everyone is nervous over as it can be a little awkward but is well structured to get a good idea of the people applying. There was an assessment day with different activities to assess how we approached situations with an interview at the end. The interview was conducted by a Senior Project Manager, and the first 5 minutes were your standard interview questions, Why do you want to do this, what experience do you have etc, but the remainder was a free flowing conversation that took all pressure away. If you can get into a room with a complete stranger and put yourself at ease with the interviewer and have a good conversation you will have no problems. All the talk was relevant to the work and I gained knowledge and was able to begin building a network from the day. Even if I hadn't been successful it was a very valuable experience.
