Some times long hours are required in order to get the job done.

Current salary: £29,000 - £31,000

What hours do you actually work, on average?

Start: 08:00

Finish: 17:30

What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Understand the company, how it places itself in the industry and its driving force. Focus on your related work experience and the skills you have developed.

Do you have any interview tips?

Be confident, no one will be trying to trip you up! Knowledge of current projects that Costain are involved in and any wider industry events you are interested in always comes across well. If you have an assessment day, don't worry about being the best in the group just contribute and be polite to the other candidates. Interviews for the grad scheme are a deselection process rather than a selection process, if you made it through the CV stage you clearly have the right qualifications and experience.

The assessment day was structured as follows:
- Formal interview - This was filled with the typical interview questions you find online e.g. a time you worked in a team.
- Group activity - This is just to see how you work in a team. Don't talk over people, be polite but don't be shy to get your ideas across (if you don't say anything, the interviewers can't mark you on anything!).
- Presentation - You will be given a topic to present on. The main tip I have is practice, practice, practice! If you are confident in what you are presenting it is much easier and is much better to watch.
